M-T-W- McCarthy Project

BRAINSTORM and CREATE an Adobe Spark Web Page:

You’re part of a special interest group that either supports or opposes the 1954 reelection of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Using the information provided in class and information you’ve obtained through additional research, it is your job to convince the voters of Wisconsin to either reelect or defeat Senator McCarthy through an ADOBE SPARK Web page or campaign ad commercial.

Students will have to create and Adobe login at https://spark.adobe.com/

After creating your account use the ADOBE SPARK- PAGE- start to create you web blog/ or campaign ad commercial.

Students need to get into groups of 4.

  1. RESEARCH: All group members should begin by conducting additional research on McCarthy and your assigned group’s ideals and views regarding McCarthy.
  2. As your research ends, the group will begin to think about ideas for your WEB PAGE/BLOG campaign ad commercial, based on what you now know about your special interest group, their views on McCarthy, and McCarthy himself.
  3. The web blog or campaign ad commercial must be multiple pages in length
  4. Your blog or campaign ad commercial should introduce the spokesperson of the group. (e.g. “I’m Joseph McCarthy, Republican Senator from Wisconsin).
  5. Your Web blog or campaign ad commercial should include 3 specific reasons to support or oppose (depending on who your assigned special interest group is) McCarthy’s reelection.
  6. Include sources, for example, “According to the New York Times, Joseph McCarthy did this and that…” (As noted above, your group must use your additional research and cannot rely solely on your handout for information. Remember to cite your sources.)
  7. Make sure your web blog or campaign ad commercial answers the question, “What American values are being destroyed/defended by Joseph McCarthy?”
  8. Your blog web pages or campaign ad commercial will be due Wednesday 4-26. It needs to be shared to Mr. Mahana by the end of the period.
