Claire Downing and Cade Duran, both Helena High School seniors, and Megan Goroski, senior at Capital High School, attended a Leaders in Equity seminar last year, and they’ve used what they learned to create a statewide community service project. They’re working with DPHHS and county sheriffs departments to create stuffed backpacks for kids who are entering Montana’s foster care system.
Their goal is to distribute 500 backpacks across the state. Each backpack has personal hygiene goods, school supplies, an age-appropriate book, a blanket, and a small toy. So far, they have 100 assembled backpacks with supplies for another 250. They plan to distribute these in May of this year.
They have received donations from individuals and businesses, and organized some fundraisers. Cade is handling the fundraising and contributions. He can be reached at email@example.com or 406.459.5298. If you can – please support this project!
