Brian Kessler

Freshman Physical Education

Recreational Physical Education is a class geared towards your traditional Physical Education ideals.  We participate in activities three days a week and do a fitness-based lesson two days a week.  We will try to include different activities such as Lacrosse, Rugby, and Cricket to our curriculum this year as well.

Make-up Policy:

If a student misses their PE class for an excused absence (doctor appointment, sports, family trip, etc.) they need to complete the make-up form to get their points back for that day for absences 1-5.  After the fifth absence, they need to schedule a time to come in and do 30 minutes of activity with me.  If they miss a Heart Rate day (usually Wednesdays), they need to schedule a time to come in and make up the heart rate time with me.  If they need to make-up a day with me, whether it is for a Heart Rate monitor or they are past absence number five, we can do it before or after school or during a study hall if they have nothing else to do.

This semester long class is intended to enrich student knowledge on how to lead and live a long, healthy life.  We cover a number of topics ranging from nutrition to Human Sexuality.

Human Sexuality Test Review:

-Male and Female Reproductive Systems and functions of each part.

-STD/Is, their symptoms and what they can lead to

-HIV/AIDS, how it is diagnosed and what is life like for a person with it

-Saying no, abstinence is the best policy

-How a life can be affected through sexual activity

-Genes (recessive is the answer)

-Crossword Puzzle Terms

-Test is multiple choice, matching, completion, short answer, labeling, and true/false

Mr. Kessler's Bio

Hello everyone!
My name is Brian Kessler, and I am currently teaching Sophomore Health and Freshman Physical Education at Helena High School.  I am very excited to be back in Helena and at my Alma mater, to teach these two courses that allow students to understand the movements of their bodies and how to make the right choices associated with ensuring a long and healthy life.
I am a lifelong Montanan, with my own history starting in Helena, MT.  After graduating from Helena High in 2007, I attended Montana State University-Bozeman (Go Cats!!!).  I graduated from MSU in May 2012 and was gratefully hired by the Livingston School District a month later.
While going to MSU I served two years as a Manager/Student Assistant for the Men’s Basketball Team, which was a great learning adventure for me.  After that, I spent the next three years as an assistant basketball and track coach at Bozeman High.
While in Livingston, I spent two years teaching at Sleeping Giant Middle School.  The first year, I taught 6th and 7th grade Health and Physical Education and then moved to 8th grade World History my last year there.  I continued to coach in Livingston as well, with 7th and 8th grade football, Freshman Boys’ Basketball, and Pole Vault for the Track Team.  I also served as the Activities Director for the Sleeping Giant Middle School Programs.
Currently at Helena High, I am trying to help out in as many ways possible, those ways include:
-Link Crew Coordinator
-Class Advisor for the Class of 2018
-MBI Staff Committee
-Safety Committee
-Assistant Boys’ Basketball coach, Assistant Boys’ Track Coach
-Home Visit participant
-Driver’s Education
As we continue to encourage students to “Be Involved” I decided I needed to do my part as well!
I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and some of my hobbies include:  hiking, exercise, coaching, doing things with my great friends, reading, and sports.
I am very excited to be back at Helena High and continue to help the Health and Physical Education program grow!
