Hello! Welcome to Mrs. Gillin’s Earth Science class.

I am very excited about this school year! This is my second year at Helena High School and I am looking forward to spending more time with the great students here at HHS. Welcome to 2nd Semester!

1/27: Intro to Astronomy, History of Astronomy Notes

1/28: Create a timeline from the History of Astronomy Notes

1/29: Split into groups and study the 8 planets of our Solar System

1/30: Present (briefly) on each planet

1/31: Begin studying the Sun, create diagram of the life cycle of the sun if time allows.

1/6-1/10/2020 Week At-A-Glance

1/6: Begin Bell Ringer Review Questions, Discuss research project rubric and begin researching.

1/7: Continue researching in groups on severe weather patterns

1/8: Continue researching and recording information, create a presentation following the rubric.

1/9: Create a presentation and practice presenting with your group. We will also begin reviewing all vocabulary from semester 1.

1/10: Review and edit presentation and practice presenting within your group. Presentations will occur next Monday and Tuesday during class. Work on a one pager, write or draw (or both) everything you can remember from the semester.

We have started our last unit for Semester 1! We are studying Meteorology until January 15th. This unit will include a few labs, notes, and a group presentation at the end in place of a test.

Unit 1 Nature of Science: An Introduction

Unit 4: Meteorology

This unit will look at what is the difference between weather and climate, what makes weather and how is it forecast. Additionally the unit will have a group presentation which includes students researching a type of severe weather and teaching the class about it in place of a written test.

    This will be a multiple choice mid-unit quiz because there will not be an end of unit quiz after Winter Break.
