Welcome to Helena High School. I have been privileged to teach at Helena High for the past 22 years. My experiences have been extensive in my life as an educator. I have taught virtually every class in the social studies department, from World Cultures, US History, MT History and American Government. This year, I will teach 4 sections of American Government and 1 section of Peer Mentoring. I am also Social Studies Department Chair and Head coach for the girls track program. Go Bengals!
This year we have new textbooks!! Students will not be issued a text, we will have classroom sets of the new books. In addition, these texts are online and each student will be able to access them at any time. Students will have a user name and password to access the online texts .We will be using new chrome books in our class. These are very user friendly and are activity based. I believe the students will find them to be very engaging as well as challenging.
Welcome class of 2016! I am excited to get the new year started. The first day of class I will be passing out class expectations. There is a requirement for you to purchase a 3 ring binder for class. Please note that this is the first assignment. There will be a number of handouts that will be given to students and this is essential to help keep you organized!
American Government is a year course and is required for graduation. In first semester of American Government, we will be covering the Foundations of American Government, the creation and content of the Constitution, political parties (including major and minor parties), the election process, and Civil Liberties.

Throughout the year we will have 2 major research papers, first semester is a Civil Liberties argumentative paper and second semester is our Mock Congress research paper.
